About Us
Zimbabwe Nurse’s Association (ZINA) is a non-profit making, non-governmental organization, non-political local NGO whose objective is to improve the life of nurses and midwives in Zimbabwe.
ZINA is the sole professional association for nurses in Zimbabwe established in 1980. ZINAembraces an array of nurses and midwifery sub-specialties branches namely, the Zimbabwe Confederation of Midwives, the Nurse Anesthetists, the Mental Health Nurses, the OpthalmicNurses, Theatre Nurses e.t.c.
ZINA operates under its own constitution and has structures running from the district through to the provinces to the national level. At each level the affairs of ZINA are directed by elected executives. Elections to offices are held every three years.
At national level the association’s affairs are managed by the Standing Committee. TheAssociation President and Executive office bearers advised by a Board of Trustees. ZINA is avoluntary organization and about one third of nurses and midwives constitute its membership.
ZINA is a member of the International Council of Nursing (made up of 135 member countries’national nurses’ associations), the East, Central and Southern African College of Nursing, aregional nursing body of the 14 countries in the region, the Southern African Network for Nursesand Midwives, the Public Service International.

Among the objectives of ZINA are:-
- To advocate for better working conditions and remunerations for nurses at every institution.
- To promote and support education and training of nurses and midwives at all levels of the profession
- To promote and support continuing professional development of the nursing and midwifery professionals for the benefit of the nurses, midwives community and society as a whole.
- To obtain, collect or receive funds by way of contributions, affiliation fees, legacies, grants
and donations, as the association deems conducive to the attainment of the objectives of the association.
Since its inception, ZINA has enjoyed a good working relationship with the Ministry of Healthand Child Welfare which is the largest employer of and trainer of nurses and midwives.
These members are elected into office at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and serve a three(3) year term of office and may be re-elected for another term of office except the Treasurer whois only required to hold the office for one term.
The Annual General Meeting is the supreme body of the Association. All office bearers arevoluntary and perform their functions on part time basis as they hold job elsewhere and come from different provinces.

ZINA is a member of the International Council of Nurses of (ICN) (made up of 135 member countries nurses association), East Central and Southern African college of nursing (ECSACON), regional body of 14 countries in the region, then Southern African Network for Nurses and Midwives (SANNAM) and the public service international PSI
